As October comes to a close, and with it, Oktoberfest, it’s the perfect time to take a closer look at its namesake beer—Festbier. I was lucky enough to find an Augustiner and a Paulaner this month, and I highly recommend finding these beers as fresh as possible—oxidation does them no favors. I regret not taking more advantage of the opportunity I had in Milwaukee to enjoy draft Hofbräu and Weihenstephaner Festbiers. If anyone in the Missoula area can recommend a spot that might have some, I’d owe you a maß.
