American Light Lager

Style Maps

Hey y’all! I’m excited to finally share something I’ve been working on for a while. This project was a huge help when I was first learning about craft beer & studying for my Certified Cicerone. I initially just wanted the BJCP Style Guidelines on one sheet for each style. But as I typed them up and took notes, I realized it was a perfect way to study at the same time.

I’m hoping this will be useful for folks working on their BJCP or Cicerone certifications. I’ll be sharing a new style each week or so. If there’s one you’d like to see or want sent your way, just let me know!

I started this 8 years ago with the 2015 Guidelines but recently picked it back up. Now that I have more time, & am free to chase my whims & curiosities, I decided to dive into programming with Python & VBA (I knew that college class would come in handy). I transcribed all the BJCP style parameters into an Excel sheet & wrote a macro to create a map in Visio for each style.

Starting with American Light Lager was a no-brainer. It’s the first style in the guidelines & the one I have the most experience with by far. When you’re surrounded by something every day, you either learn to resent it or to continually find something new & inspiring in it. Coors Light never gets boring.
